  • HOLIDAYS ARE OVER...BUT HAVE THE CATALOGS STOPPED COMING? HERE'S HOW TO REDUCE UNWANTED MAIL
A new section is coming to your 'Our Treemont' website, focused on the new trend to 'Go Green', recycle and reduce waste. In anticipation of that launch, I want to share a great tip for stopping the flood of catalogs into your mailbox - at least those you don't read or want, (even during the holidays!).

A new website called 'catalogchoice.org' was launched in October by a group of environmental groups. It's really easy to use, I've tried it. Just gather those catalogs you don't want to receive, log into the site and create a new acccount - all it takes is your name and e-mail and mailing address where you receive catalogs. You must enter each catalog separately, using the code that appears on the mailing label, usually above your name. That way you are only eliminating the unwanted catalogs.

Currently about 117 merchants have signed up, making it easy to eliminate the catalogs you don't want.

Remember when I told you about the big green bin behind Tom's Market at the Summerdale Mall...that place for all those glossy catalogs and paper inserts to be recycled? Well, it's still there, waiting for your 'contributions'!

Have a great day! Karen S. Fleisher

*** Something to think about in the new year is saving MONEY on your MORTGAGE over the long term. By sending 1/2 of your mortgage payment every 2 weeks you make the equivalent of ONE EXTRA payment a year. What does that mean? On a $300,000 30 year mortgage, you could save $77,000 in interest over the life of the loan!

*** Holidays are over, and you've got all those GIFT CARDS in your wallet - or scattered to the four winds. Estimates are in the BILLIONS for gift cards purchased and never used. I read about a website where you can SWAP or SELL gift cards...
I have not checked it out yet, but if you care to give it a look, the url is www.plasticjungle.com.

*** Have friends around the world? You can talk for FREE. Check out www.Talkster.com

*** And did you know it's FREE to send text messages to a cell phone from your computer? Type the telephone number in the TO: line. Use the addresses listed below:

  • EMERGENCY AT YOUR HOME? CAN HELP FIND YOU?
I was reading the latest East Pennsboro Newsletter when an article written by Jim Derstine caught my eye. As an emergency service provider, his concern was that so many homes are not clearly identified with a house number, visible from the road, Immediately adjacent to the home entrance.

Mr. Derstine's point is vitally important. I recently added numbers to my new mail box, only to find to my dismay that they are Not reflective, and my black mail box is still 'in the dark' after dark. Thankfully I do have that number next to my front door...but consider this. How about adding your address numbers to the REAR entrance of your home - especially if you live in a property or areas with rear parking, service roads and alleys?

While we are in the New Year Resolution mode, consider making one to safeguard the well being of your family and home. Take necessary steps to make it easy for emergency responders to locate YOUR home in the event of an emergency.
  • RECYCLE SHINY PAPER - SUPPORT RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE!
Cub Scout Pack 89 (Enola) wants your Trash! Specifically your SHINY paper (magazines, brochures, newspaper inserts, etc). Recycle these items and support the Cub Scouts community service to support the Ronald McDonald House.

Look for the big Green recycle bin at the Summerdale Plaza (Route 15 south) behind Tom's Market (in front of K Mart).

Questions can be addressed to Don Holley at dholley89@aol.com. Locations of other local Cub Scout shiny paper collection bins can be obtained from Mr. Holley.
